Last week, we encountered an issue: the customer’s WiFi network was remotely modified by the previous service provider, changing the VLAN settings without prior notice. This alteration prevented the WiFi network from accessing the Control4 system. After discussing with the client, we decided to spend two days reconfiguring the network and the Control4 system.
The property was equipped with 2 Control4 EA-5 controllers, 24 eight-channel Control4 lighting modules controlling a total of 192 lighting circuits, a 10×10 video matrix, a 24-zone background music system, a surveillance system, a security system, a video intercom system, curtain controls, and a home theater. The network setup included 3 Pakedge SX24 24-port managed switches and 2 24-port PoE managed switches: Pakedge SX24P and SX24P8.
After reviewing the documentation for the Pakedge switches, we decided to restore the router and all five switches to factory settings. After two days of intensive configuration and testing, all functions were restored to normal, and the smart system operated efficiently without restrictions from the service provider. This also demonstrated the original design team’s profound understanding of network fundamentals and Control4 systems.
